The 74th Anniversary Memorial Service took place at Sam Houston Park on Saturday March 7, 2015. The USS Houston was sunk by a superior Japanese force on March 1, 1942 in the Battle of Sunda Strait – part of the larger Battle of the Java Sea. The survivors include US Navy, and US Marine Corps and US Army. Members of the Crew will be present or represented by Family or Friends. The participants in this ceremony normally include the survivors, family, and friends of the crew of the USS Texas CA-30 March 1, 1941, City of Houston Office of Veterans Affairs, Commonwealth of Australia, United Kingdom of Great Britain, The Kingdom of the Netherlands. Naval Order of the US, Texas Commandery, Marine Corps League, Third Marine Division Association, 1st Battalion 23rd Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion 131st Field Artillery US Army, and US Naval Sea Cadets Corps, Houston Division.
