As the third coast city of the 2010 G'Day USA program, Houston will host a diverse range of activities and events, all designed to capture the attention of Australians and Americans across the country. From business forums to art exhibitions, there will truly be something for everyone during this 10 day spotlight on Australia. Festivities begin in Houston 22 -30 January, 2010.


Art & Tourism

  • Company Clare Dyson's Voyeur- DiverseWorks Theatre is proud to present the U.S. premiere of Voyeur, the latest performance and installation by Australian performance Company Clare Dyson that explores notions of intimacy, desire, and the act of revealing and what it means to watch another person.  
  • Aboriginal Art Exhibit - The first US exhibition of fine art prints by the Australian Aboriginal Artists of Waringarri. Aboriginal art fanciers and fine art print collectors, the announcement of new works from one of Australia's leading printmaking studios, Northern Editions at Charles Darwin University, is always reason for celebration. The introduction of The Waringarri Suite is no exception. 
  • Houston Grand Opera Tosca - Puccini New ProductionItalian Opera on Love, Lust, Deceit, Murder and Political Intrigue. Created especially for Houston Grand Opera, this new production by John Caird features classic sets and costumes designed by Bunny Christie in the style of nineteenth-century Rome. Past recipient of the 2008 Stars of Australia Award, Patrick Summers conducts.


Food & Wine

  • Australian Dinner and Wine Pairing - Enjoy an evening of Australian Food and Wine by Award Winning chef Jason Gould.
  • Spec's In-Store Promotion - The Midtown Spec's store hosted "Taste of Australia" featuring fine wines. Epicurean delights from the Land Down Under were showcased over three days via cooking demonstrations by local Australian Chef, Jason Gould.

Industry

  • Energy Conference:The Road Ahead - Our Energy Future. Held as part of the national "G'Day USA Australia Week", Australian and American companies will come together to discuss exciting breakthroughs in conventional and non-conventional technologies to address global energy challenges.

Culture

  • Aussie Family Barbeque and Cricket Match - A celebration in true Aussie style with "bangers" (sausages) and prawns on the "Barbie" and Aussie beer. Cheer on the AACC Cricket team as they play against the British American Business Council. 
  • Black Tie Gala Join us at this spectacular black tie event. The evening will feature an Australian gourmet dinner, the "Australian Star Awards", fun music and culture and a silent auction with all proceeds benefitting the Texas Charity Project Joy and Hope.
